In today’s world, it is not enough to simply be a Christian and spend your days scanning social media, texting, volunteering, working, going to church, and taking care of families or others. On top of a busy schedule, we are met with so many opposing views and conflicting sources of news that negate each other.
How can anyone begin to know the truth? How can anyone know the right decision to make about anything?
There is a way, and that way is simple: always ask God about everything.
We get so busy with our daily lives. Yes, many of us pray—we ask for forgiveness and we ask that our prayers be answered—but our current systems are broken, and our strategies for living are getting more difficult and less satisfying.
What is the answer? God is the answer.
Imagine if, at any moment, you could ask God for the right direction, answer, or guidance and be given that answer quickly, if not instantaneously. There is a way to make this your reality. I practice it every single day, moment to moment, and with practice, it is both quick and easy.
By connecting to God and asking for His advice, counsel, and answers, you are getting information from the only Source who truly knows what lies ahead and what is best for you. Everyone else is making decisions based on human interpretations of words they have read, people they have talked to, or news they have heard—all of which can be slanted by bias, misinformation, or guesswork. No one knows the real truth but God.
So, what is the action step? Anytime and every time you have a question or concern, or you are thinking about making a change in your life, the very best place to go is before God. He has never made a mistake, and He will never lead you in the wrong direction.
Here is a quick and easy practice to bring you closer to God and make you more receptive to His guidance:
- Pause: Close your eyes and take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Focus on releasing tension and stress with every exhale.
- Reflect: Focus your mind on a single moment or memory that brings you pure joy. Breathe in and out a few more times as you reconnect to that feeling.
- Give Thanks: Offer praise to God for that moment and express your gratitude.
- Connect: Breathe deeply, settle back and down into your heart space, and speak to God. Ask Him for His guidance or lay out exactly what you are wanting.
- Release: Give thanks to God for working in your life, and anticipate with excitement how He will unfold His plan for you.
Anytime you feel yourself slipping back into worry or looking to the outside world for a quick solution, simply close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and ask God again to move on your behalf. It is that simple.
